Time:2023-07-19

In September 2022, under the overall command of the Food, Drug and Environment Pollution Crime Investigation Division of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, and with the cooperation of provincial and municipal copyright administration departments and departments of culture, radio, film, and tourism, Guangzhou Public Security Bureau’s Food, Drug and Environment Investigation Support Team and Yuexiu District Sub-bureau jointly launched the "6.17" crackdown operation on copyright infringement.

The operation succeeded in breaking up a major criminal network across Guangzhou, Jieyang, Foshan, and other areas in Guangdong, which involved activities of infringing the copyrights like illegal production and sale of pirated study aids. The action destroyed 8 dens in total, including printing factories, studios and warehouses. The investigation revealed multiple criminal syndicates engaged in various criminal activities such as master design, bulk printing, binding, packaging, and online sales, with an estimated value of about 20 million RMB. So far, 17 individuals have been detained and 3 have been arrested, leading to a comprehensive crackdown across the entire supply chain.

Comments: This criminal network is comprised of several criminal groups and the number of pirated books that were illegally printed, stored and sold are huge. The case, jointly participated by the public security organ, the copyright administration department, and the radio, film and television tourism department, is a typical case that promotes the implementation of the copyright law enforcement cooperation mechanism in Guangzhou, strengthens the connection between administrative and criminal law enforcement, and improves the efficiency of copyright law enforcement.
